NEISFCA General Body Meet 2010

The North-east India Salesian Family Catechetical Association (NEISFCA) which was formed in 2006 under the guidance of Fr. Barnes Mawrie, met for the annual General Body Meet at Pastoral Centre from 26th to 27th July.

Assam Governor Inaugurates the New Academic Year of DBCET, Guwahati

``It is just about a year ago that the first State University in the private sector, sponsored by Don Bosco Society, was established through an Act of the State Legislature of Assam. As the Governor of the State, I am proud and privileged to be the Visitor of this University`` said His Excellency, Shri J B Patnaik, Governor of Assam today while inaugurating the new academic year of Don Bosco College of Engineering and Technology, Azara, Guwahati. Commenting on the main objectives of the University he said that providing quality education at the university level and making higher education more accessible to the disadvantaged sections of society are, indeed, the crying needs of our society today.

Fr. Benny Alex SDB obtains PhD

Fr. Benny Alex, the Principal of Don Bosco Technical school, Shillong has obtained PhD. for his thesis ``Nanotechnonolgy in Electronics communication`` from The Open international University for complimentary medicines, Colombo, Sri Lanka. He received the award at a convocation held at Crowne Plaza, Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia on 11th of July 2010.

Dignitaries Launch Skills Training For BPL Youth of NE

Launching the training programmes at Don Bosco Institute (DBI) Kharguli, on 6th July 2010, Shri. S.K. Roy, Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (rural) invited the youth to take maximum advantage of the training and get themselves employed to lead a dignified life. He particularly emphasized the importance of IT enabled services in the market today. Fr. V.M. Thomas SDB, Director, DBI welcoming the guests specially appreciated and thanked Shri. Roy for his timely support and help towards DBI in the successful implementation of the various programmes.

Skills Training For BPL Youth of NE - 2

The inauguration of the training program at Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong was held on 30th June 2010. Mrs. V.R. Syiem was invited as the chief guest to inaugurate the program. Mr. Patrick Nongrum, the headman of Laitumkhrah, Mr. Celestine Nongspung, Deputy Director of Civil supplies, Fr. L.B. Anthony, Director Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong, Fr. Benny Alex, Principal of DBTS, Br. Valeri and Br. Muscat, Sr. Helen Puwein FMA from Bellefonte Convent were also present on the occasion. There were approximately 50-60 students along with parents or guardians.

In a series of functions organized by Don Bosco institutions in Guwahati and Shillong, state dignitaries and leaders launched the Job oriented skills training under DB Tech (MoRD) for BPL youth of Northeast at various technical centers of the province.

Another milestone in the history of the Don Bosco Institute as it launched two job oriented courses for the poor and deserving students on 6th July 2010, supported by the Ministry of Rural Development, govt. of india. Mr. S.K. Roy, the District Commissioner of Kamrup (R) was the chief guest for the function.

Meghalaya Governor Inaugurates Job Oriented Courses at RRTC

`I want to work in rural development sector that is where the future of India is. I want to stop the migration of rural population to cities and living in squalor with pigs and dogs in urban slums, in process losing their self respect, their culture and their individual productive genius`. So said Shri R.S.Mooshahary, the Honourable Governor of Meghalaya, while launching the new Job Oriented Courses under Swarnajayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana of Rural Development Ministry of Government of India at St.Joseph`s Rural Resource Training Centre in Umran, 30 kilometers from Shillong on Guwahati -Shillong Highway on the 2nd of July, 2010.

``My Life Is Yours O Lord - This Is My Sacrifice, My Yes``

The month of July brought another gift to the community of Sacred Heart Theological College, Shillong. It was a reliving of `Pentecost` as nineteen brothers from the community were ordained deacons - taking them a step towards the goal of their vocational journey, the priesthood. While two belong to the congregation of Missionaries of Faith, the remaining seventeen are Salesians from the provinces of Bangalore (2), Kolkatta (3), Guwahati (4), Delhi (3), Dimapur (2) and, Sri Lanka (3). The candidates prepared themselves for this important step with a week of retreat and reflection at the Pastoral Centre, Shillong, where they were animated by Fr. M.P. Thomas, the novice master of Dimapur province.

``Monk or No Monk ... with Don Bosco`` - Vocation Camp 2010

A `Salesian Vocation Camp` for the Post - Matric, XII and Graduate was hosted at Don Bosco Technical School Shillong in order to seek and to discern Gods Will in their Life. It commenced on 21st of May 2010 and culminated on the 14th of June 2010. Over seventy Young men from the states of Jharkhand, West-Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram, hailing from a variety of ethno-cultural backgrounds took part in the discernment process.
