Bishops participate in the Stations of Mercy

By Father Gilbert Choondal
Bangalore, Mar. 6. The 32 Plenary Assembly of CBCI (Catholic Bishops' Conference of India) witnessed a prayerful service on the Stations of Mercy at St. John's Medical College on 4 March 2016. The bishops used the book on Stations of Mercy prepared by Father Gilbert Choondal sdb.
The way of mercy (Via Misericordiae) helps the faithful to reflect on the mercy of God and to assess one's acts of mercy in daily life. The Service was organised by Father Sagay John, the director of NBCLC, a CBCI centre for Bible, Catechetics and Liturgy. ''The Stations of Mercy is an apt service during this year of mercy especially lent'', said Fr. Sagay, the director of NBCLC.

The Stations are based on the 14 works of mercy (Spiritual and Corporeal). The first seven Stations are based on the Spiritual Works of Mercy. Here the focus is on the deeds of Christ (Actiones Christi). The subsequent seven Stations are based on the Corporal Works of Mercy. Here, the focus is on the person of Christ (Persona Christi). The entire Way of Mercy begins with the life of Christ and continues through His suffering and death. Each station contains moments of Social reflections, Reflections from the life of Christ (Actio Christi and Persona Christi), prayer, quotes and acts of mercy. The movement from each station is led by a sequence that is in tune with the Anthem of the Year of Mercy.

The book is available from Kristu Jyoti Publications, Bangalore.
