Dimapur, Mar. 11. A three-day workshop ``Living, Learning and Leading in the Digital Age: Training in Pastoral Communications for Priests and Religious`` was held for participants from North East India, at Pastoral Centre, Tezpur from March 6-10, 2012.

The programme was inaugurated by Bishop Michael Akasius Toppo of Tezpur and Bishop Emeritus Robert Kerketta along with several church and religious dignitaries. 40 participants, consisting 30 nuns and 10 priests from neighbouring dioceses of Upper & Lower Assam, as also from Nagaland and Arunachal attended the workshop. Dr. George Platottam, Prof. Barnes Mawrie-Director of Pastoral Centre Shillong, and Prof. C.M. Paul-Guest Faculty at the Department of Journalism & Mass Communications, University of Calcutta were the resource personnel.
Speaking at the occasion, BishopToppo said ``for pastors communication is very essential. How effective are we in this field? It is in this context that we need to re-organize and plan since many things we use and know are getting outdated.``
Bishop Emeritus Kerketta underscored the importance of communications saying, ``a communicator makes all things to all people, so that as St Paul said: we are able to save some people for the sake of the Gospel.``
Endorsing the theme, the Executive Secretary of the CBCI Media Office in New Delhi, Fr. George Plathottam said, ``Live, learn and lead is our mission... the important mission is to communicate the Gospel.``
The workshop themes were: Teachings of the Church on Media and Communications, Print Media and Pastoral Ministry, PRO, Crisis Management and Pastoral Ministry, Electronic Media and Pastoral Ministry, Alternative Media and Pastoral Ministry, Media Management and pastoral plan, Reading the signs of the Times and New Ways of Being Church, New competencies & skills required of the pastors and leaders, Media Education and Film Analysis as a new way of Evangelization, New Media Technologies and their applications for Pastoral Ministry, Media Applications in faith, Catechetics and Development Communications
This was the first ever media training programme for priests and religious organized by Bosco Communications, Dimapur in collaboration with Pastoral Centre, Tezpur.
