The Salesians Remembered the Feast of Their Father and Founder
By Fr. Lucas Naw
Abroad, Feb. 1. Pyin Oo Lwin...After intense preparation with the Novena Prayers to St. John Bosco and various sport competitions in honour of Don Bosco, the customary celebration of the feast was conducted in a novel manner by the community of our Don Bosco Philosophate in Pyin Oo Lwin, on Monday, 31 January, 2011. To be convinient for all, the Holy Eucharist was celebratefd at 5:00 pm, under the portico of the same house in the evening to which not only the different religious communities from the place but also the Salesian Past Pupils and friends of the Salesians were invited. To honour the Father and Teacher of youth, more than 200 people were gathered together including the Salesians.
The day began at 6:30 am with the a method of meditation, namely mind control was introduced by Fr. Rector, Francis Dass followed by breakfast.  Then, from 8:00 am to 10: am, the clerics prepared the place for the Eucharistic celebrattion and games as they would be hosting a big number of participants.

As the new buds are sprouting on the trees (it is a springtime in Myanmar), our bright and breezy SDBs, FMA novices and Sisters came from Anisakan all excited for the games. But the thing that stirred their enthusiasm was neither the spring weahter nor the fun and games rather it is the feast of their Father and Founder St. John Bosco.

Amidst the shouts of joy and screaming for excitement of the young Salesians, ever wearing the white cassok organizing the events of the day, was our eighty- two- year old Fr. Cyril Francis SDB, the Master of the games.

There was one and a half hour lunch break from 12 to 1:30. Although the community of the Don Bosco Philosophate served the main dishes,
each community brought some of their own delicious food to share with all the others.
In the games resumed at 1:30, inspite of the hot sun, the young Salesians took part cheerfully and actively till it ended at 3:00 am tea break followed.

The solemn Mass in honour of Don Bosco began at 5:30 pm and was presided over by the Rector, Fr. Francis Dass.
In his homily, he reminded the attendants that as St. John Bosco fulfilled his God given duty to save the young we are also called to do so.  Among other things he mentioned, too, that after Don Bosco had become a priest, he had a desire to come to Myanmar as a missionary. Therefore, to fulfill this great desire of him, the relics of Don Bosco will be brought to Inwa, Myanmar  (the then Eva kingdom, where Don Bosco wanted to go as a missionary) sometime in April, 2011.

After the Eucharistic service, dinner was served to all by our community.
