SEMINAR HELD ON MIDLIFE DYNAMISM & SPIRITUAL JOURNEY

By Thankachan Joseph SDB
New Delhi, Feb. 21.  Don Bosco Provincial House, New Delhi, paved a red carpet welcome for 17 participants from different parts of the country. Of these seven are sisters belonging to Daughters of Mary Help Christians and Sisters of Mary Immaculate, the remaining 10 are Salesians from the Delhi province. Rev. Fr. Parappully Jose SDB (Director of Sumedha Centre for Psychology & Spirituality, Jeolikote, Uttarakhand)  is the resource person.  The seminar is scheduled for 4 full days from 18th Feb to 21st February.
''In the middle of the journey of our life, I came to myself within a dark wood where the straight way was lost. Ah, how hard it is to tell of that wood, savage and harsh, and dense, the thought of which renews my fear. So bitter is it, that death is hardly more.'' Says Dante in his Divine Comedy. Mid life is actually God's second call. These four days are meant to have introspection into each one's life and to answer the following questions and find satisfying solution to them. They are: Where am I? What am I doing? What has brought me to where I am? What has happened to my dreams? How do I want to live out the rest of my life?  Briefly, one has to find answers to the problems of identity, intimacy, generativity and integrity.

All those who are participating expressed their view of it as a useful training. After all the achievements and failures of adulthood it is good to have a look back to see how one has managed life. This is a time to harmonize one's potentialities and become an integrated person.  That is what God wants people to be. That is the reason why mid life is called a time of God's second call.
