The Holy Eucharist was presided over by Dr. Bernard Moras, the Archbishop of Bangalore with most of the other Bishops of the different dioceses of Karnataka and hundreds of priests concelebrating. Over five thousand devotees including sisters and seminarians participated in the Holy Eucharist and the ensuing thanksgiving adoration. The Archbishop in the homily recalled that Father Tom had worked for some time each in different dioceses in Karnataka such as Bhadavathi, Chikmangalore and Bangalore Archdiocese. He appreciated all those who were instrumental in the release efforts of Father Tom, both religious and ecclesiastical.

Immediately after the Holy  Mass a short Eucharistic adoration service was held during which the faithful thanked and praised the Lord for the safe release of Father Tom. Father Joyce Thonikuzhiyil, the Provincial of Bangalore Province addressed the faithful and thanked everyone for praying for Father Tom. He made special mention of the interest and earnestness with which the Holy Father, the Major superiors of the Salesian Congregation, the Sultan of Oman and authorities in Yemen, Prime minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, former Chief Minister of Kerala Umman Chandi, Pinaryi Vijayan the Chief Minister of Kerala and the CBCI, its leadership and KCBC all worked together for the release of Father Tom. He made a special mention of the support extended by the Archdiocese of Bangalore and the paternal support extended by the Archbishop during the 18 months of tension and anguish after the abduction of Father Tom.

Father Jose Koyickal, the Vice Provincial of Bangalore Province and chief organizer of the event welcomed the gathering. The brothers of KristuJyothi College, from where Father Tom is a past pupil organized the liturgy and choir under the guidance of Father Moncy Nellikkunel.

The programme came to a close at 6.30pm with the Eucharistic blessing. Sweets were distributed outside the church underlining the sentiments of joy of everyone who thronged the cathedral to thank the Lord for the release of Father Tom.
