Father George Arimpoor SDB laid to Rest at Don Bosco Mannuthy

Mumbai, Aug. 8. The Salesian Province of Bangalore mourns the demise of Father George Arimpoor (84), the former Economer of the Province on August 1, 2017 at Don Bosco Aluva. The mortal remains of Father Arimpoor were brought to Mannuthy around 11. 45 am on Wednesday, 2nd August. Father George, hailing from Thrissur District and being a close relation of the late Arch Bishop Joseph Kundukulam, was widely known in the Arch Diocese and the presence of two Bishops (Arch Bishop Andrews Thazath and Arch Bishop Emeritus Jacob Thoomkuzhy) and numerous priests and religious.

The second part of the funeral service began at 2 pm presided over by Father Jose Koyickal, (Vice Provincial of Bangalore Province). The Holy Mass was then celebrated; it was presided over by Father Joyce Mathew, the Salesian Provincial and concelebrated by over eighty priests. Father Joe Arimpoor (A relative of Father George) and Father P.P. George (A classmate of Father George as well as the representative of Chennai Province) were allotted special places at the altar. The funeral homily was preached by Father Paulson (Rector of Don BoscoVaduthala. Arch Bishop Emeritus Jacob Thoomkuzhy presided over the fourth part of the funeral service.

After the farewell liturgy several persons paid tribute to Father George Arimpoor. Father Francis Vattukulathil, Rector of Don BoscoAluva spoke on behalf of the house where Father Arimpoor spent his last year of life spreading an odor of sanctity and serenity in the house. Father Joe Arimpoor spoke on behalf of his relations. Father PP George paid him tribute as a representative of the province of Chennai where Father George had worked before the division of the Madras province. He was, besides a close friend and classmate of his. Father K.D. Joseph spoke a few words of farewell on behalf of senior Salesians. Arch Bishop Andrews Thazath who had come in at that moment thanked Father George on behalf of all the clergy of the Arch Diocese where he had rented significant services and had worked as parish priest for two years. Father Joyce Mathew, the provincial, bade him farewell on behalf of the province and he remarked that the memory of Father George Arimpoor would remain in the province for a long time to come through his numerous works in the various houses were he had rented selfless service.

Then the procession to the cemetery took place. At the main door of the church the body was received by Father George's relations who carried it to the cemetery preceded by a long procession of priests, Salesians, religious, aspirants, relations and friends and admirers from far and near. At the cemetery the concluding prayers were said; the tomb was blessed; kisses were imprinted on the body; incense was spread in the coffin; tears were shed; the coffin was closed; it was placed in the cell; all stood thoughtful and pensive; Father George Arimpoor had reached home.

The words of gratitude was pronounced by Father John PK, the rector of Don Bosco Bhavan and his invitation to one and all to partake in the refreshments prepared for them in the school premises ended a long ceremony at 5.45 pm.
