83 Young Men Make 1st Profession as Salesians in South Asia

Kolkata, May. 24. The Don Bosco South Asia region this year has a total of 83 novices making their 1st profession. They were trained in 06 novitiates; 05 in India (Chennai, Darjeeling, Dimapur, Kerala and Shillong) and 01 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Salesian South Asia region consists of India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.

Of these 83 novices, 79 young men took their first vows on 24th May 2020 after completing one year novitiate formation, in prayer, discernment and experiencing Salesian life.

They belonged to five novitiates of 10 Indian Provinces. Chennai Novitiate has 13 novices, Dimapur - 9 novices, Darjeeling - 13 novices, Kerala 15 novices, and Shillong - 29 novices.

Of 79 new Salesians professed in India, 75 are Clerics and four lay Brothers - 17 new Salesians for Shillong province, 13 for Guwahati and 9 for Dimapur, 12 for Kerala; 7 for Chennai and 6 each for Kolkata and Tiruchi, 3 for New Delhi, two for Mumbai and one for Panjim Goa.

Four novices of Colombo province will make their first profession on 15th August 2020. Of these 3 novices are for Tliruchy province and one for Chennai.

South Asia Regional Councillor Father Biju Michael said, ''We are immensely grateful to God who continues to bless us with vocations.'' He further reminded the confreres,
''Every call is an indication that the Lord loves the Congregation, wants to see it vibrant for the good of the Church and never ceases to enrich it with new apostolic energy.''

He wished the newly professed saying, ''May our Blessed Mother Mary accompany our newly professed confreres to live out their lives in a service of permanent dedication to the young.''

In this report we have inadvertently missed out 10 Hyderabad novices who professed on 24th May 2020. The error is deeply regretted.So, the total number of novices in South Asia Region who made their first profession this year should read as 93.
