Kolkata, Nov. 5. As the clock struck 1.30 at noon on 5th November, 2013 Fr. Pascual Chavez Villanueva Rector Major, Fr. Adriano Bregolin Vicar of the Rector Major, Fr. Juan J. Bartolome Secretary to Rector Major along with Fr. Maria Arokiam Regional Councillor South Asia, Fr. Thomas Ellicherail Provincial Kolkata and Fr. Godfrey D'souza Provincial Mumbai headed towards Don Bosco Self Employment Institute (DBSERI) Mirpara, in the suburbs of the City of Joy, where a grand welcome awaited them.
The congested roads leading to Don Bosco, Mirpara were teeming with people. Much dust was raised in the air as the vehicles flew past each other. However, the scene changed altogether as the entire team was ushered into the peaceful and serene premises of DBSERI. The red carpets were rolled out. 'It was just roses roses all the way...' Flower petals were dropped from above as bouquets and garlands were presented to the dignitaries below.  A special flower coronation ceremony was held for the Rector Major. Later, four hundred young enthusiastic students and seventy five teachers led the dignitaries in procession to the hall where an official welcome ceremony was held.

Fr. Mathew Manianchira Rector DBSERI welcomed Fr. Pascual saying ''We are indeed very glad to welcome Don Bosco to DBSERI''. Giving a description of the activities in the Institute Fr. Mathew appreciated the Pascual Chaves Award 2012 which was presented to the Institute for innovative Salesian Youth Ministry in South Asia.  A fifty member strong choir led by Br. Arvind Khalko sang beautifully a welcome song accompanied by the students themselves.

Fr. Pascual interacted informally with the students saying ''It is a beautiful day for me.  Thank you'' He compared Don Bosco and Mother Teresa for their love for the poor and said that they worked for peace along the lines of love, justice and solidarity.  He encouraged the students to be dreamers like Don Bosco. He spoke of the great opportunities available in the institute and advised the students to develop their talents. Fr. Pascual said that emerging India needs different kind of citizens who are concerned about the well-being of people.  He exhorted them to be professional in their outlook and encouraged them to be pro-active citizens. At questionnaire time some of the students talked about various themes as religious tolerance, women's empowerment and relationship matters.

Before the choir sang the final hymn to Don Bosco Br. TV Mathew Director of the Institute thanked Rector Major and the dignitaries.  He said, ''Although you have not seen us you believed in our works and gave us the award. Thank you.''

There ensued a photo session with the Salesians, staff members and the students.  It came as a surprise to everyone when the Rector Major posed for photo sitting on the floor along with the students.  Everyone was enthralled and there was great enthusiasm among the young.

A special DVD was presented to the Rector Major named ''Towards the Silver Lining'' directed by Bhabani Tamuli a teacher at the institute on the life of Ritu a physically challenged student in the institute.  The movie was selected for screening in China during the ISFVF 2013 in which 32 countries participated.

After the refreshments, Rector Major and his team moved to Don Bosco, Liluah where an interaction with the young people, Holy Mass and Cultural programme are scheduled.
