Kolkata, Oct. 13. The Association of Salesian History Lovers, ACSSA  (Associazione cultori di storia salesiana ) is organizing a seminar on Salesian Historiography from 15th to 17th November, 2013 in Bangalore.
The Objectives of the Seminar, according to Fr. Mathew Kapplikunnel, the chief organizer, are to create a historical mentality, to take stock of the actual situation of Salesian historiography in India, to offer a hands on experience of production, conservation and utilization of sources for writing history, and to create interest and encourage efforts to preserve our Salesian cultural patrimony.
The Seminar is open to all the groups of the Salesian Family from South Asia, and in particular to those who have a post graduate degree in Civil/Ecclesiastical history or Salesian Studies, the Province/Provincial Secretaries, those who have an interest in Salesian history, and those delegated by the Provincials.

Rev. Fr Maria Arokiam, the Regional Councillor, in the name of the Rector Major will be presiding over the inaugural session, and Rev. Fr Stanislaw Zimniak, General Secretary of ACSSA, will participate as official representative of ACSSA and as resource person. The venue of the Seminar is the Salesian Provincial House, Bangalore.

The ACSSA has been at the service of the Congregation for the past 32 years. Directly under the patronage of the Rector Major, the Association is committed to enhancing the knowledge of Don Bosco and promoting the study of the history of our Congregation.

Besides researches and publications, ACSSA organizes international seminars on various aspects of Salesian history every four years, the last one being in 2010 coinciding with the centenary celebrations of Don Rua's death. The next one is scheduled for 2014, in connection with the Bicentenary of Don Bosco's birth.

In between these international seminars, Regional seminars are organized on Don Bosco or on the history of the Congregation in different zones. These are organized by the Associations of Salesian History Lovers existing in the various Regions of the Congregation. Most of the Regions have organized their seminars for the period 2010-2014, except the Asian Regions. The East Asian Region has programmed its Seminar for the end of November 2013, and the South Asian Region for 15-17 November 2013.

More information regarding the Seminar is available from Fr. Mathew Kapplikunnel at
