Don Bosco Crosses ING-INC Border
By Fr. Alu Hemrom
Kolkata, Jun. 29. The confreres and the people of Guwahati Province bid a tearful farewell to Don Bosco, when after a solemn Holy Mass at Dotma, the last pilgrimage spot of the Guwahati province, the relic of Don Bosco left for Ramfal Bil, a sub-centre of Dotma where there was a grand welcome and veneration. Later, on 28th June, 2011 at 9.15 AM the relic of Don Bosco left for Jaigaon in West Bengal.
The two carriers were accompanied by four jeeps, viz., i) INC Relic-coordinator, Fr MC Joseph (Provincial Economer INC) and Fr Remesh Cherian, to lead the way, ii) ING Relic-coordinator, Fr Ethelbert Minj (Vice-Provincial ING) and Fr Alu Hemrom, behind the relics, iii) Fr Eddie D'Souza, Rector and PP of Dotma, two FMAs - Sr Jessy (superior), Sr Esther Ishorary, iv) Fr Santosh Minj (Rector) with Fr Nicodim Aind of Barpeta Road and Fr Damian Basumatary (Rector and PP), Bengtol.

The relic crossed the border to West Bengal at 10.27 AM at Srirampur. In the meantime Jaigaon was restless, awaiting the arrival of Don Bosco. At 12.30 PM, the relic entered the FMA campus at St Anthony's Convent School, Jaigaon. The students, boys and girls had lined up on either side of the driveway shouting, ''Long live Don Bosco,'' ''We love Don Bosco,'' ''We want Don Bosco'' etc...  Canopies were unfurled.

Don Bosco was placed in a beautifully decorated pandal. The guests, especially Angelo, Sergio, Carlo and Gino were welcomed and felicitated in the traditional Bhutanese style with rice-talak and scarf. After the beautiful dancing steps, the people venerated the relics. At 3.00 PM as the veneration neared the end there was a downpour and the relic left for Oodlabari.

Fr Ethelbert who accompanied the relic, all throughout the sojourn in the Province of Guwahati summed up his feelings at Siliguri saying, ''It was indeed a retreat experience''. I can say that the faith of the simple people is admirable. It strengthens my faith too.  Some people in Ramfal Bil commented, ''People seem to know more about Don Bosco than Jesus!''
