''Looking at the growing use of online spaces in India, Centre for Social Research and Facebook came together and initiated this programme. #SocialSurfing intends to initiate the dialogue on how the user can have a positive online experience by maximizing the use of social media platforms.''

''Programme Goal is aim at Creating a culture of positive gender sensitive online environment, by promoting use of counter speech, through sensitive campaigns and listing user-driven best practices. #Social Surfing intends to engage with a diverse group of internet users and build their capacities for a positive and gender sensitive online experience. With these workshops, we also aim at initiating a dialogue on Counter speech, for the very first time in India. #SocialSurfing is a pure educational program.''

Sister Mariola Sequeira was the convener of this programme.  Social Surfing does these workshops free for students.  The two Resource persons were Amitabh Kumar and Vikram Sheoran who came from Delhi brought all their resource material required for the workshops.  The Team was monitored and guided by Team leader Pratishtha Arora, who communicated online with the Convener.

Amitabh Kumar said, ''This is our 175th workshop.  We've done it across India and in three countries so far.''
Sr. Mariola, ''It was an interactive programme.  I found it very useful for our youth as they learnt cyber etiquette, cautions and dangers of accessing social networking sites.  A few senior students expressed a need to have these workshops for them as well.''

196 out 425 Arts students, 82 out of 146 Science students and 38 out of 67 Commerce students attended the workshop in two one-hour slots.  Altogether 316 students benefited from this programme.
