ISFFI 2012 in the Offing

Chennai, Mar. 16. The 6th International Short Film Festival of India (ISFFI) hits the screens on 17th March and runs through 18th March unrolling a vibrant selection of short films, documentaries and animations. This year the ISFFI program comprises a record of 56 films shortlisted from 632 entries from 30 countries produced by both professional and amateur film makers.

The 6th International Short Film Festival of India (ISFFI) hits the screens on 17th March and runs through 18th March unrolling a vibrant selection of short films, documentaries and animations. This year the ISFFI program comprises a record of 56 films shortlisted from 632 entries from 30 countries produced by both professional and amateur film makers. This year witnessed a growth of submissions by 15% over last year.

The two-day festival, best known for its diverse and cosmopolitan balance of films including various genres like drama, documentaries, animation, comedy, science-fiction and mystery is a festive bonanza offered by Don Bosco Institute of Communication Arts (DBICA) to all the film lovers, media critics, film theorists, film students, and all those associated with film production. The festival will be held at Abirami Mega Mall, Shree Annai (Chinese Theme Theatre), Purusaiwakkam, Chennai under the patronage of DBICA and Abirami Theatres Pvt Ltd.

DBICA is a non-profit Communication and Media Arts organization with the mission to ``celebrate the culture and art of the moving image through film making and film going experience of exceptional merit and diversity that challenge, transcend, educate and entertain.``

Short films are an alternative to the regular main stream commercial cinema, and they are unique in terms of delivering powerful and realistic messages, using best creative techniques and capturing the audience in a very short span of time. ISFFI in line with her mission, showcases the best of world`s short films. The short film extravaganza this year comprises of 29 International short films from countries like Australia, China, Germany, Iran, Italy, Poland, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, Switzerland, UK and USA and 27 Shorts from India, coming from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu on a variety of themes belonging to alternate genres and narrative styles. All 56 Short Films will be screened within 2 days in different timings.

The celebrities and guests of honour who will be participating in the festival are Mr. Abirami Ramanathan - President CCFEA & TCTOF, Mr. Arvind Ranganathan - CEO Real Image, Mr. Gnana Rajasekaran - Dean SRM University, Director Sargunam, Director Thambi Ramaiah,  Director Mu. Kalanjiyam, Director Brinda Sarathy, Director Nanda Periyasamy, Director S. Ezhil, Director Balasekaran,  Director Durai, Director R. Kannan, Director Kulandai Velapppan, Director A. Venkatesh, Director S.S. Stanley, Director Seenu Ramasamy, Director S.P. Hosimin, Director Saravana Subaiya, Director Balaji Mohan, Director Ravi Maria and Director Bhimsingh Lenin.

This Film Festival is organised in collaboration with International Business Houses like Promofest, Spain, Aug&Ohr Medien, Berlin, KIMUAK, Spain, FILMAKADEMIE BADEN-WUERTTEMBERG, Berlin, Ecam - Madrid en Corto, Spain, Mailuki Films, Spain, and The House of Films, Spain and Media Production Houses like L.V. Prasad Film and TV Academy, Chennai, S.R.M. Sivaji  Ganesan Film Institute, Chennai, Government College of Fine Arts, Chennai and St. Thomas College of Arts & Science, Chennai and MEDIA PARTNERS like Big FM, NDTV Hindu, SS Television and Chennai Online and the VENUE PARTNERS Abirami Theatres Private Limited, Chennai.
