Annual Athletic Meet, Don Bosco Primary, Egmore
By rupen
Chennai, Oct. 19. Don Bosco Primary School hosted its Annual Athletic Meet on Friday the 12th of October 2007, in the school premise.  With a clear sky favouring the day and all the young hearts eagerly waiting to unfold their sporting skills, the programmes commenced with a prayer song and a welcome Address by the Asst. Headmistress Mrs. Susan Victor.

The Chief Guest of the day was Mr. Shanmugarajeswaran I.P.S., Superintendent of the Police and the Principal of the Police Training College, Tuticorin.

The chief guest duly acknowledged the March Past by the students of std. V. With their colourful flags aloft and their swift and steady movements, they paraded like little soldiers.  The School Flag was then hoisted and with much fervour the boys sang the School Anthem promising to bear on their crest always, their motto, `Virtus in Arduis.`
This was followed by the lighting of the torch by the chief guest.  The school leaders and the House captains carried the lighted torch with their hearts ignited as well with the spirit of sportsmanship.  They then solemnly took the oath and the Sports Meet was declared open by the chief guest.

rThe first event was a tableau show casing the different games like football, volleyball, basketball, badminton etc.  The students of std. IV & V then presented a Mass Drill with the sound of colourfully painted coconut shells blending with their synchronized movements.  This was followed by the chief guest`s address.  Mr. Shanmugarajeswaran was very appreciative of the efforts taken by the management and staff in training the boys skillfully well.  He reminded the young hearts that they should be privileged to get themselves moulded in this great institution.  He exhorted them to be steeped in discipline which would help them achieve greater things in future.  He also encouraged them to participate in sporting activities and bringing accolades to our Nation.  He then distributed the prizes for the already run events.

Rev.Fr.Mudiyappan then welcomed the special invitee of the day, Padmashree Shiny Wilson, the shining star of Indian Athletics.  The boys participated enthusiastically in the various relays organized.  The students of std. III enthralled the audience with their display, highlighting the 60th year of Indian Independence.  The `tip toe` display of the students of std. I proved that they were not the smallest but the smartest among the DB`s.  The students of std. II showcased their skills in Karate.  The last event, but certainly the best event of the day was the formation of Pyramids by the students of std. V.  Well trained by the P.T. Masters, the boys rolled and curled transforming themselves into blocks of little Pyramids.  The show was applauded.  The prizes were then distributed to the winners.  The Rector Rev. Fr. Sagayaraj proposed the vote of Thanks. This was followed by the closing ceremony and the National Anthem.

The Triumphant heroes of the day were the Savios - the green House students.  Immaterial of winning or losing, the sports meet did bring the boys together in a spirit of sportsmanship.  The bonds of brotherhood were strengthened once again in honour of sports, in the Don Bosco way.
