Hyderabad PDO Seminar Acts published in Madrid, Spain
By Chris Valentino
Abroad, Jun. 9. The Acts of the 2nd Seminar on Planning and Development Offices held in Hyderabad from November 06-10, 2011 has been published by the Salesian Mission Office in Madrid, Spain.
The seminar in which 90 people from 35 provinces, of 62 countries participated, had analysed the current situation in the context of `mission ad gentes` and had discussed the road-map for the future.

Making the presentation, the Rector Major - Fr Pascual Chavez writes ``I take this opportunity to congratulate you and to express my thanks to all the confreres and lay co-workers in the 50 Provinces which have contributed to the development of the PDO over the last 10 years. By now the PDO has become an indispensable means for the coordination, consolidation and expansion of the Salesian mission. I should also like to express my appreciation to the agencies for Salesian apostolic solidarity (the Mission Offices and the NGO for development) for their constant professional contribution to this whole process.``

The Seminar was a success in identifying certain operating criteria. The integration of the PDO within the framework of the Provincial Structural Plan is a key instrument in the System of Salesian Apostolic Solidarity. This Seminar at Hyderabad was the second after the previous one held at Rome in 2005.

Fr Chavez hopes that the Acts of this Seminar ``with clear criteria for the development of the PDO and a number of good practical suggestions, will be a great help to the Provinces which have started with their Planning and Development Office. I ask the Provincials and their Councils to integrate this instrument within the Province to the benefit of a more structured, efficient, and sustainable Salesian Mission.``

Chapter two contains articles by several Indian Salesians:
1.`Challenges facing PDOs Today` by Fr George;
2.`Bosco Reach Out - A PDO History - ING (India - Guwahati)` by Fr. Johnson Parackal, and Fr. Thomas Kunnappillil;
3.`CAUVERI, Development Office, Salesian Province of Tiruchy, India` by Fr Thamburaj;
4.`Voice of Children (VOC) an innovative project for Street Children` by Fr Jose Mathew and Fr Kolapalliyill Thankachan; and
5.`Don Bosco Tech Network: The Skilling India Experience` by Fr Aikarachalil Joseph.

Chapter three features:
1.`Preventive System: Programme and Spirituality for Development` by Fr Maria Arokiam Kanaga - General Councillor for South Asia.
2.`Planning and Development in the Context of the Salesian Charism` by Fr Dominc Sequiera.
