``Brothers are the second support leg of the salesian congregation, and we need both legs (priests and Brothers) to carry on Don Bosco`s mission`` was the expression of Br Frank Braganza as he addressed the gathered youngsters.
`Brothers Day` is an annual feature of the province of Panjim-konkan to give the due attention and promote salesian lay brother vocation. The lay brothers young and old take initiative in organizing a day long program on awareness, as well as interaction with the salesian brother in a typical salesian spirit. It is organized in different communities as per convenience and facilities available to gather the children and speak to them about the nobility and sanctity of a lay vocation within the salesian family.
Fr Ian Figueiredo, the Provincial celebrated the Eucharist marking the beginning of the programme, reflecting on the Coadjutor vocation and the singular reason why Don Bosco needed the Salesian brother. Soon after the Eucharist the children along with the Salesians gathered in the Terrace hall to present various cultural items: Song, Dance, Skit and action songs, to bring on stage different aspects of the lay brother vocation. The students of Don Bosco Farm School Sulcorna, and the aspirants of Panjim presented insightful skits while the flashy red costumed dance sequence of the students of Don Bosco Kakati stole the show. Fr Sigmaringa introducing the items acknowledged that the presence of a lay brother in Kakti in its initial five years of Salesian presence had made a big difference in the Salesian spirit prevalent in Belgaum.
The cultural programme was followed by lunch together, and the typical Goan flavour to the program by the tie-breaker competition held between the various houses of the province. It was indeed a fruitful day, where the children spent in fellowship the salesian brothers and the salesian family.
