Mother Teresa Book Release Marks Jubilee Celebration
By C.M. Paul
Colombo, May. 28. ROME, (C.M. Paul) - The release of a new book on Mother Teresa marked the silver jubilee celebrations of two Kolkata province Salesians currently working in Rome, 27 May. Dr Varghese Kalluvachel, pursuing his second PhD, at CLARETIANUM Institute of Theology of Consecrated Life affiliated to the Pontifical Lateran University, Rome, celebrated 25 years of his priesthood. His companion, Dr Antony Vayalil launched his priestly ordination jubilee and doctoral thesis book entitled: Mother Teresa and the Globalizing world.
The Indian students of theology at Gerini Institute, overlooking the high security Italian prison at Rebibbia where Mehmet Ali Agca, John Paul II`s assassin, spent 29 years, prepared the Eucharistic celebration as well as the fellowship meal assisted by the bursar Fr Sergio Pierbattisti. Fr Sergio did the honour of releasing the book.

Dr. Kalluvachel also known as K.C. Varghese, did his first doctorate in Philosophy in 1988 from Salesian University, Rome. He has taught philosophy for over 20 years in several colleges in India and Sri Lanka. He had also been the Rector of the Studentate of Philosophy at Salesian College Sonada, Darjeeling, and Novice Master and the Councilor for formation for Salesians in Sri Lanka.

Instead, Dr Vayalil holds a Master`s degree in Systematic theology from Sacred Heart College, Shillong and PhD in Missiology from the Gregorian University, Rome.
His book focuses on Mother Teresa as a universal missionary sans frontier, whose primary objective was to help the poorest of the poor who were deprived of a life without basic human dignity.

Dr Vayalil argues that Mother Teresa`s experience is applicable in today`s globalizing world. He further insists that Mother Teresa is the model for missionaries as she ``masterfully balances the elusive margin between a contemplative and active missionary.``

The 355 page book published by Calcutta Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services (CCCRS) in 2011 apart from being academic, is the fruit of years of service as delegate for Missions in Kolkata province. The cost of the book is not mentioned.

Fr Vayalil is at present in the Salesian community of San Callisto Rome, engaged in catechetical ministry and faith formation of pilgrims who visit the famous catacombs of San Callisto.
