A football tournament was organized by St. Anthony's Higher Secondary School, Shillong, in memory of (late) Rev. Fr. K.V. George SDB, former principal of the School and a pioneer in promoting sports in the state. It may be noted that it is in the tenure of Fr. Salesian Vocation Camp for the Post- Matric and XII boys was held at Savio Juniorate from 9th to 30th April, 2013. There were eighteen boys from different parts of Meghalaya and one each from Jharkhand and Orissa. The camp was conducted under the supervision of the Vice provincial Fr. Destructive Cyclone Hits Salesian Works in West Khasi Hills

On Wednesday, 10th April 2013 a destructive cyclone hit parts of West Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. The most affected villages are Umdang, Porlah, Seinduli, Banglapluh and Nongjri. St. Anthony's Higher Secondary School, Shillong held its 84th Annual Athletic Sports Meet cum Inter-School Invitational Events at Don Bosco Mini Stadium at Shillong. The Chief Guest Mr. Zenith M. Sangma, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, hoisted the school flag and received the salute from 42 marching contingents of various schools from different parts of Shillong and the four houses of the School. Fr. John Larrea Laid to Rest

The Province of Silchar bade a tearful adieu to Fr. John Larrea on the 18th of April 2013. The funeral Mass was celebrated at the Mary Help of Christian's Cathedral, Shillong. Most Rev. Dominic Jala, the Archbishop of Shillong presided over the Eucharist, concelebrated by Most Rev. Thomas Menamparampil SDB, Archbishop emeritus of Guwahati, Rt. Rev. Victor Lyngdoh Bishop of Nongstoin, Fr. Hilarius Lamare the Administrator of the diocese of Jowai, Fr. Arthur Marak the Vicar General of Tura, Priests representing the Dioceses of Imphal, Kohima and Dibrugarh along with other 80 priests.. Read More

Fr. John Larrea SDB passes away at Shillong

Fr. John Larrea SDB of the province of Silchar passed away at 3.20 am on 17th April 2013. He was 92. He was ailing for sometime due to old age and was admitted to Nazareth Hospital, Shillong a few days back. The Salesian Congregation deeply mourns the passing away of Rev. Fr. John Larrea SDB, aged 92, at the early hours of 17 April, 2013. His mortal remains are kept at the Don Bosco Technical School Chapel. There will be a concelebrated requiem mass at the grotto chapel at 6 pm on 17th and the funeral mass will take place at 2 pm on 18th April at the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Laitumkhrah, Shillong.. North East India Bishops reiterate Pope Francis' Stand on Poor

Agartala: Echoing the predilection for the poor that Pope Francis famously made known at the beginning of his pontificate, the leadership of the Catholic Church in North East India has said there is an essential 'link between our faith and the poor'. ''Our educational services and social outreach programs,'' said Archbishop Dominic Jala, ''are expressions of the Church's belief that there exists an undeniable link between our faith and the poor.'' He called it a 'link' the Church in North East would ''vigorously pursue.'' Archbishop Jala of Shillong was speaking at the meeting of the North East Regional Bishops Council, held at Bishop's House Agartala, 2nd - 4th April 2013, of which Archbishop Jala is the chairman. .
