Shillong, May. 9. Shillong: The third day of the Chapter begun with Lauds at 6.30am and was animated by Fr. Glorious Syiemlieh. The Eucharist was celebrated by Rt. Rev. Victor Lyngdoh, the bishop of the Diocese of Jowai. He began his homily by appreciating the contributions made by the Salesians to North East India. He appreciated the great tradition that the Salesians have in walking with young people as well as of upholding their dignity. Though the youth scenario of North East India is characterized by certain negative elements such as insurgency, militancy, clannism, Tribalism, factionalism and denominational rivalry and discrimination, the youth of today are looking for someone who understands and spends time with them. The Salesian needs to concentrate on the social, emotional and psychological growth of the young people. Quoting Pope Francis' message to the Salesians, the bishop said, ''To proclaim to all the mercy of Jesus, making an oratory of every place, especially the most inaccessible; bearing in mind the heart of the 'oratorian' style of Don Bosco to share the mission of taking the Gospel to the peripheries.'' The Salesian of today is called to be a revolutionary after the example of Don Bosco, to cater to the poor and the abandoned young people. As explained by Pope Francis, the Salesian must know ''how to look around, to see critical situations and problems, to confront them, to analyzes them and make courageous decisions''.
