Caring for the Earth - Our Common Home

Chennai, Nov. 29. Nearly 500 children from six YaR (Young at Risk) centres of Chennai province, together with their directors, got together for the first time at the province level to celebrate a unique theme - Caring for the Earth - Our Common Home. The Yar Day was organised by Father Joseph Leo, SDB the province YaR coordinator and the other commission members at Don Bosco, Beatitudes, Vyasapadi on November 26, 2017.

Father Xavier Pakiam SDB, the Economer of the province,  presided over the inaugural event and addressed the children to take 'care for our earth, which is our common home'.

It was followed by the guest performance of Mr. Balaji, cine artist who invited the children to contribute their share in caring for the mother earth. Mime and Dance competitions were conducted among the YaR centres and together with it the children presented the unique best practices carried out in their respective YaR centres.

DBICA, the communication department of the province screened  short films on the topic and raised awareness on the need to act immediately to save the earth. It was followed by DBAI - HCL Gurukul students who displayed exhibits on ''Save energy, save environment'' inspiring their student friends to be active contributors in saving the earth from human exploitation.

Mr. George Muller, Project Manager, Bonn, Germany presided over the prize distribution ceremony and presented prizes to the children. ''This event was really inspiring and I was very happy to see the poor youngsters from the various YaR centers being cared for by Don Bosco institutions.'' said he.
