Jubilarians Felicitated in the Province of Silchar
Shillong, Jul. 20. The confreres of Silchar province and the aspirants of savio Juniorate gathered in joy and thanksgiving around its jubilarians at Savio Juniorate on 16th July 2016. The festive occasion was also celebrated as the Provincial Community Day.
The 16th  of July 2016 was a red letter day for the community of Savio Juniorate as it hosted the twin celebration of the jubilee of confreres and the provincial community day. The celebration started with the Holy Eucharist presided over by Father John Kalapura, one of the jubilarians and concelebrated by Father George Maliekal and Father VM Thomas the Provincial of Silchar and Guwahati provinces respectively.

Soon after the Holy Mass there was a short felicitation programme for the jubilarians: Father John Kalapura and Father TT Thomas (Diamond Jubilee of profession and Golden jubilee of ordination) and Brother Muscat Carmel (Diamond Jubilee of profession) were the only jubilarians present for the function whereas Brother Albert Longley, Bro Regy Joseph, Father Kenny Pakma and Father Vijumon who celebrate their Silver Jubilee of Profession were not able to attend the celebration due to unavoidable circumstances. To guests included the youngest sister of Father John and two family members of Br Muscat from Malta.

The Savio Band welcomed the gathering with their melodious band piece. Through songs and dances the Savio Aspirants, Preparatory boys, Novices and the young Salesians expressed their appreciation and affection to Father Provincial and the Jubilarians. During the felicitation programme Father Provincial addressed the gathering in which he thanked the jubilarians for their faithfulness, tireless zeal and enthusiasm in their ministry. He mentioned that it is through their hard work and self sacrifice that our province is progressing. He also exhorted the assembly to draw inspiration from them and then presented a gift each to the jubiliarians as a sign of love and appreciation. Father VM Thomas, the Provincial of Guwahati, also greeted and thanked the jubilarians for their sacrifice and commitment on behalf of the Guwahati province. He also mentioned that the young Silchar Province has made lots of progress and initiatives within a short span of its existence while the mother province of Guwahati has grown old.

The Jubilarians too thanked the gathering for their appreciation. Father Gabriel Colney proposed the vote of thanks, in which he appreciated the jubilarians, the Provincial and his council members and thanked everyone present. The gathering concluded with a hymn to Don Bosco followed by sumptuous lunch for all. (Brother Patrick Ngaihte)
