Mother Teresa International Film Festival (MTIFF) at Coimbatore kicked at Nirmala College auditorium on 30 November 2010 at 9.30 a.m. in the august presence of Mr. Venkatahalam, Mayor of Coimbatore and Fr. Kulandairaj, Vicar General of Coimbatore diocese. MTIFF 2010 jointly organized by Alaihal Media and Missionaries of Charity in Coimbatore drew hundreds of enthusiastic students.
MTIFF 2010 started off with an inaugural function at 9.30 a.m. Mr. Venkatachalam, Mayor of Coimbatore, was emotionally moved as he spoke of the selfless service that Mother Teresa rendered to the dying and the destitute.  ''Though she was a foreigner by birth, adapted India as her country and served the poor and marginalized people of India till the end of her life,'' he said. He urged the audience to do today what Mother Teresa did during her life on earth. Fr. Kulandiaraj, Vicar General of Coimbatore diocese also urged the audience to emulate Mother Teresa in their lives.
Films on Mother Teresa highlighting a particular aspect of her life were screened during the entire day to a packed audience. In the Name of God's Poor produced by Dominic Lappiere was the opening film for the festival. The film probes the human side of Mother Teresa and the struggles she had to face within the Church as well as from the civil authorities. During the festival the committee exhibited around 500 rare photos of Mother Teresa. The photo exhibition which started with her child took the audience thorough a photo-tour of Mother Teresa's life and works.
''MTIFF 2010 is travelling to several places in India. Alaihal Media organized MTIFF 2010 in Trichy in association with Poondi Matha Constructions and Arasu Hyundai,'' said Fr. Gamaliyel SDB, Festival Director. ''Alaihal Media is organizing MTIFF 2010 in Coimbatore in association with Missionaries of Charity. Our intention in organizing this film festival is not to showcase the noble deeds but to motivate the people and children to care for the poor and marginalized,'' he added.
