A meeting of the Education and Culture commission was held on 26th and 27th July at Don Bosco SPCI House, New Delhi in which 21 participants from all the Salesian Provinces of India and Fr. Maria Charles, South Asian Coordinator for Education and Culture attended. It was a wonderful experience of coming together and sharing the developments and the success stories of various provinces. Sharpening the axe is essential to the work of the Wood cutter. The teachers of Don Bosco School, Ghanaur, Punjab had four days of English coaching programme conducted by Father Aneesh Chacko and one day of Teacher Effectiveness Development Programme (TED 2019) by Fr. Babu Varghese. The English coaching programme was held from 1-4 July,2019 and TED 2019 was held on 5th July,2019. A priest who worked for street children in various Indian cities for over 33 years died on March 19. Salesian Father Anthony Thaiparambil died at Don Bosco Provincial House New Delhi. He was 84. His funeral is scheduled to be held in the Salesian cemetery at Okhla, New Delhi at 4 pm on 22nd March 2019.. Read More

Sindhupalchawk, Nepal -- A Christian Non Government Organization working in Nepal marked its 25th year of service to the people of Nepal by handing over fifth earthquake resilient school to villagers at Kallery in Sindhupalchawk district in central Nepal some 90 kilometers east of Kathmandu. The second annual seminar on Participatory Action Research (PAR) for Transformation of Don Bosco Homes for the Young at Risk in South Asia was held at Don Bosco Provincial House on 27-28 March, 2017. There were presentations from 22 PAR research coordinators. Coming from 16 centres in 9 cities and 6 states of South India, they showed how the participation of children really made a difference. They were now part of the solution to problems that frequently occur in these centres. The centres were slowly but surely being transformed as child-friendly and child-directed. The same is now sought to be replicated in the entire YaR (Young at Risk) sector in South Asia.. Read More

They came from the districts of the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana; they who were elected to the district committees by block level functionaries of human rights clubs set up by People's Action For Rural Awakening in over 587 government schools across the two states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. They came together to elect their leaders for the state level committees of the federation of human rights clubs in government schools guided by FatherJohn Tharakan. Kolkata province Salesian is the first member of Salesian Family India to complete doctoral thesis from Assam Don Bosco University Guwahati. Father C.J. George Chempakathinal is among the first batch of doctoral candidates to complete PhD from ADBU in 2015. Five candidates were conferred doctoral degree during 4th Convocation, on 3rd September making Father George 6th candidate to complete doctoral program this year. . Read More
