Sonada, Darjeeling -- Students of one of the most vulnerable regions in the country for victims of human trafficking got alert on women and child trafficking by one of the leading Non Government Organisations working in the filed for over a decade. Sinoj Thomas, a reporter with Manorama News television channel and a past pupil of Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu (Master of Communication and Journalism Batch 2012-2014), won the inaugural Aster Media Award for socially impactful reporting in Malayalam. He was honoured for his story about a young tribal widow, who manages to survive and feed her children solely with the leftovers from the School Midday Meal programme. The award, instituted by healthcare charity DM Foundation, carries a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh and recognizes journalists whose works help shape public awareness and drive action on socially relevant issues.. The Little Pickpockets, children from schools in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana where People's Action For Rural Awakening has set up human rights clubs reached out to the children affected by the unprecedented December Floods in Chennai. They decided to pick pockets to make this possible. Only it was their own pockets that they picked to reach out to others and fill their own hearts with the joy of giving. They put their pennies together and collected Rs 1,50,000 and sent their representatives to corporation schools in Chennai to tell that they love and care.. Read More

(ANS - Lahore) - The heroic guard who last Sunday in Lahore prevented a suicide attacker from the Jamaat ul Ahrar group from entering a crowded St John's Catholic Church was named Akash Bashir. Akash was a past pupil of the Salesian technical school located in the predominantly Christian neighbourhood of Yuhannabad. He caught hold of his assailant, using his body as a shield. Akash lost his life and saved the lives of many other people.. Read More
