The Salesians of Don Bosco in Mumbai, have taken the Covid-19 challenge head-on, in compliance with the civic administration's directives, to bring relief aid to the most poor and abandoned within Mumbai City limits and in other parts of Maharashtra and Gujarat. In Mumbai City - Matunga, Wadala, Andheri and Nerul - MumbaiSalesians are ensuring that the necessary daily basic requirements of the most poor, especially of those residing in the slum pockets of Mumbai are being addressed, in their battle for survival against the Covid-19. . The Salesians, faculty and students at Don Bosco College Angadikadavu are bracing the Covid-19 crisis, amidst lockdown and physical distancing, to reach out to the needy with food kits. Each provision kit worth Rs. 1000/- contains rice, wheat flour, pulses, oil, vegetables and other edibles for a 07 days. About 20 deserving families have been helped thus far in the vicinity of the College campus that currently functions as a quarantine care centre under the District Administration of Kannur.. Sinoj Thomas, a reporter with Manorama News television channel and a past pupil of Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu (Master of Communication and Journalism Batch 2012-2014), won the inaugural Aster Media Award for socially impactful reporting in Malayalam. He was honoured for his story about a young tribal widow, who manages to survive and feed her children solely with the leftovers from the School Midday Meal programme. The award, instituted by healthcare charity DM Foundation, carries a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh and recognizes journalists whose works help shape public awareness and drive action on socially relevant issues..
