Kolkata, Oct. 30. Spiritual renewal of the young people of Polsonda...

I had the great joy of meeting and animating a group of younsterrs in Polsonda parish, in Murshidabad Dt. of West Bengal, from from 17th to 20th of October. It was a very enriching experience for me, as well as for the young people. Having spent some days with this group of younsters, I have to the conviction that it is possible to find many among the new generation of young people with a new vision for life and a thirst for authentic spiritual experiences.  Amassing of material things has created a void within the heart of the young people and their craving for a spiritual well being has become a necessity in present time.  Therefore, the same spiritual values must be presented with deferent tonic labels so that they can consume them without any prejudice or difficulty and produce good results. One of the youngsters who attended the retreat had already cautioned me that it would be just a fun to be present there without any determination from his part for an internal renewal. But the outcome was quite different, I learned later.  All of them expressed that they enjoyed the Retreat. That was the very theme of the Retreat - ``Let us enjoy our days in the company of Jesus``.

The number of participants for this retreat itself quite surprised me - about 180 of them, really wanting to make a good spiritual retreat. Apart from various sessions there were group dynamics organized in the afternoons wherein they shared the part of their spiritual life of joys and struggles will with their close friends of five in a group. At the end they had to pray a ``Hail Mary`` for each one. Some shared that it was their first hand unique experience and were hesitant to share, but they were contented at the end and realized that others were having worse problems than their own.

On the final day, we concluded the retreat with a solemn Eucharistic celebration which was carefully and creatively prepared by the young people themselves. I was greatly delighted with the rediscovery of the goodness in young people and their interest for spiritual well being.
