Helping Identify and Kick the Drug Habit
Mumbai, 2017 Jun 24 The World Health Organisation has estimated that 250 million children world-over are affected by tobacco consumption. Its figures such as these, and other`s published in India, pointing to over 90 percent children in certain Indian states using tobacco and well over 50 percent opting for alcohol, cannabis and other inhalants, that has prompted the Don Bosco Research Centre (DBRC), under the leadership of Father Ajoy Fernandes to undertake a three-year-long study on substance abuse among school children, the findings of which have been published in a book penned by Father Fernandes, entitled ``Preventing Substance Abuse Among School Children`` a manual for teachers, being launched by Cardinal Oswald Gracias on June 29 in Mumbai.  Read More »

Seminar on Stepping Down to Equality by Participatory Action Research (PAR) group
Hyderabad, 2017 Apr 01 The second annual seminar on Participatory Action Research (PAR) for Transformation of Don Bosco Homes for the Young at Risk in South Asia was held at Don Bosco Provincial House on 27-28 March, 2017. There were presentations from 22 PAR research coordinators. Coming from 16 centres in 9 cities and 6 states of South India, they showed how the participation of children really made a difference. They were now part of the solution to problems that frequently occur in these centres. The centres were slowly but surely being transformed as child-friendly and child-directed.
